What's inside

Three ingredients from Scripture. Nothing else.

Every ingredient in Rala is one you can find in your Bible. Each one is there for a reason you can look up tonight.

✦

Frankincense

From East Africa

The incense of prayer, burned before the Lord every morning and every evening.

"Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense."Psalm 141:2
✦

Myrrh

From East Africa

Brought to Jesus as a child, and carried to His tomb. There at His birth, and at His burial.

"They presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."Matthew 2:11
✦

Blessed virgin olive oil

From Jerusalem

The oil of anointing. Even the name Christ means "the Anointed One."

"Thou anointest my head with oil."Psalm 23:5
Frankincense and myrrh resin with olive oil, the three ingredients in Rala anointing oil

It is not the holy oil from Exodus 30. That recipe was for the tabernacle, and Scripture says not to copy it. Rala is a humbler oil, made for one woman's own prayer.

Before you buy any anointing oil

Turn the bottle over.

A lot of "frankincense and myrrh" oils have a cross on the front and something very different on the back. Soybean oil. Filler oils. The word "fragrance," which can mean almost anything.

Some are sold for "setting intentions" and "meditation." Those words aren't in your Bible.

Here is what to look for, and how Rala compares:

RalaMany anointing oils
Real frankincense & myrrh✓Often "fragrance"
Nothing that isn't in Scripture✓Soybean, filler oils
Says where each ingredient comes from✓Rarely
Blended to order✓Mass-made
Arrives sealed✓Not always
Made for prayer, not "intentions"✓Varies
60-day money-back guarantee✓Rarely

Comparison based on common anointing oil labels sold online. Always read the label of any oil you buy.

Where it comes from

From a tree in East Africa to your Bible

From the tree to your Bible: frankincense cut by hand in East Africa, resin tears, olive oil from Jerusalem, blended to order
  1. The cutIn the dry hills of East Africa, a small cut is made in the bark of the frankincense and myrrh trees, by hand, the way it has been done for thousands of years.
  2. The tearsThe sap hardens in the sun into small drops called "tears." Pale gold for frankincense. Deep red-brown for myrrh. They are gathered by hand.
  3. The olive pressThe olive oil comes from Jerusalem, where Jesus prayed in a garden called Gethsemane. The name means "oil press."
  4. Blended for youYour bottle isn't made until you order it. It is blended to order, with care and reverence, then sealed and sent to you.

The scent

It smells like church. Not perfume.

WarmWoodyA little sweetDeep and resinous

Many women tell us it takes them straight back to a church service from their childhood.

One drop is plenty. It isn't meant to be a strong perfume. A single drop on your fingertip is all one prayer takes, so the small 9 ml bottle lasts a long time.

How to use it

Less than a minute. Every night.

  1. One dropPut one drop on your fingertip.
  2. Touch your foreheadOr your wrist. Breathe it in slowly.
  3. PrayIn your own words. No script. Nothing to catch up on.

Some women also touch a drop to the doorframe of a room while they pray over their home and family.

A drop of anointing oil over an open Bible at Psalm 23
To be clear about what this is: the oil has no power of its own. It doesn't make God listen. He hears you with nothing in your hands. It simply marks the moment you turn to Him. For external use only.

Honest answers

"Is anointing oil really for someone like me?"

A careful woman should ask. Here's what Scripture says.

Isn't anointing oil New Age?

Some bottles are sold that way, with words like "intentions" and "energy." Your caution is wise.

But oil was in the hands of God's people thousands of years before anyone said "New Age." Jacob poured oil on a stone to mark the place where God met him (Genesis 28:18). In Scripture, oil always points to God.

Isn't anointing only for pastors and elders?

When someone is sick, James 5:14 says to call the elders to pray and anoint them. That belongs to the elders.

But in Bible times, ordinary people also put oil on their own heads. Jesus mentions it as naturally as washing your face (Matthew 6:17). Using oil in your own quiet prayer is something different, and much older.

Isn't it a Catholic or Pentecostal thing?

Jacob anointed that stone almost four thousand years ago, before Moses, before the temple, and before any denomination. It doesn't belong to one church. It belongs to the Bible.

Doesn't Exodus 30 forbid it?

Exodus 30 gives a holy anointing oil for the tabernacle (myrrh, cinnamon, sweet cane, cassia and olive oil in exact amounts) and says not to copy it (Exodus 30:32). It also gives a holy incense recipe not to be made for yourself.

Rala is neither. No cinnamon, no cane, no cassia, and it isn't incense. And Scripture never forbids frankincense or myrrh themselves. The wise men gave both to Jesus (Matthew 2:11).

Is it some kind of magic oil?

No. And walk away from anyone who says it is. Think of a wedding ring. The ring doesn't make you married. The vow did. The ring marks it. Anointing oil marks the moment you turn to God.

For Christmas

The gift she'll actually use

For the mother, sister or friend who always says "I don't need anything." Not another candle or mug. The gifts the wise men brought, in one small bottle she can use every night.

For prayer and blessing my home

I bought this oil to use when praying over my home. I went through each room, said a prayer, and anointed the entrances. Now I also use a little in the mornings before I start my day. I make the sign of the cross on my forehead while I pray. It's become a meaningful part of my prayer time. Love it.

Paula R.

Wish the bottle was bigger

I really like this oil. My only complaint is the size of the bottle. I just wish there was a larger option available.

Kathy N.

Just what I wanted

Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for.

A special addition to my prayers

I bought two bottles to use during my personal prayer time. I love the connection to the biblical tradition of anointing with oil, especially the passage in Exodus. The scent is very unique, and there's something meaningful to me about using frankincense and myrrh while praying. I'm really glad I found it.
